(So)(Co) Sit Down with Danielle Doby

A few months ago, my dear friend Aly introduced me to the Instagram account @iamhertribe. I was starting to feel a bit sick of the repurposed quotes that everyone (including myself every so often) were posting on Instagram but I knew this was immediately different. The first post I wrote from Danielle Doby was this one - Don't Should All Over Yourself." If you read anything I write, you know how much I hate the word "Should" because it's overused and I always ask "according to who?"

How do you spend your days?

Connecting + collaborating. My heart’s mission is to create rad things with rad people, I thrive in that scene. People are what fuel me, they are what gets me out of bed in the morning. My purpose for my time here is to elevate our collective through meaningful connection, both on and off the yoga mat.

What are three things you are grateful for?

The magic that lives in human connection, the “landing” feeling I get the moment I step on my yoga mat + my power of choice.

Explain your lifestyle in 5 words or less.

Everything I create for my life is rooted in my 5 core values: Tribe. Connection. Goosebumps. Service. Love.

If you were to attend a potluck dinner, what would you bring?  

The last one I went to I showed up with gluten free cupcakes + beer.

If you could gift everyone you meet with one book, what would it be and why?

Daring Greatly by Brene Brown.  is my spirit animal. She has cracked my world radically open and pulled me out from the shadows of playing small with my life.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

This is something new I’ve been trying on. A juicy shift from scrolling the IG, to 5-10 minutes of meditation on my Headspace app. Then coffee, of course.

If you could change one thing in your daily routine, what would it be? What would it take for you to make that change?

MORE WATER. Always more water. I’ve set the intention of carrying around one of the Ozarka gallon jugs that is literally the size of a small child. Water + workout? Yahtzee.

What does being healthy mean to you?

This has shifted for me over the past few years. It’s no longer about the outside + what the naked eye can see. Healthy for me, right now, starts with the insides. The feeling of the feels. How do I feel. What do I feel.  Why do I feel the way I do. What’s heavy. What’s light. What’s no longer serving me in my life that I can complete and let go of. Once I can identify it, I can build an awareness around it and go hit a sweaty workout + transcend the stuck energy out of my body.

What song can immediately change your mood in the best way possible?

Oh man. Right now I am all about the Bieber. And I have zero shame owning it. The fever is real, and it’s so good.

What is one piece of advice someone has given you that shifted your way of thinking?

“It’s not all about you, Danielle. When you withhold your purpose because of your fear, you are denying someone out there who needs it. The world needs what you have to give. All you have to do is have the courage to take the leap and step into it.” (I revisit this daily.)

What article of clothing/outfit do you feel most empowered wearing?

My black wunder under pants from lululemon, a crop top and my Nike sneaker wedges.

Complete this sentence: “In order to be happy, I need to….”

Choose it. I was taught in my teacher training that the human mind can only hold one emotion for every 30 seconds, and in order to keep it, you must make the conscious choice to relentlessly keep choosing it.

What do you have going on in your life that you’d like to share with the (So)(Co) Community? (business, upcoming event, book launch, new product etc.)?

I am the founder of a movement called I am her tribe, which is a platform that serves as an empowering space for breaking down barriers + cultivating connection through use of storytelling and my own personal life learnings.
